Overview


The Legal Environment of Business (LEBUS) minor presents students with a structured study of the statutory and common law governing the business environment. Students in this program have the opportunity to learn advanced legal subject matter, including business organization structures, employment law, property law, commercial transactions, intellectual property, environmental law, and government regulation.


A minimum of 20-22 credits is required with at least six credits at the 400 level. A grade of "C" of higher is required in all courses for the LEBUS minor.


LEBUS Requirements — 2006 through 2008


  1. Take one of the following Business Law combinations
    1. B A 241 (2) Legal Environment of Business and B A 242 (2) Social and Ethical Environment of Business
    2. B A 243 (4) Social, Legal, and Ethical Environment of Business
    3. B LAW 243 (3) Legal Environment of Business (non-Smeal majors only)
  2. Take one of the following Finance courses
    1. B A 301 (2) Finance (Smeal Majors)
    2. FIN 100 (3) Introduction to Finance (non-Smeal majors only)
  3. Take the following Business Law course
    1. B LAW 346 (3) Agency Employment and Business Structure
  4. Take the following Economics courses
    1. ECON 002 (3) Introductory Microeconomic Analysis and Policy
    2. ECON 004 (3) Introductory Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy
  5. Take six credits from the following. Please Note: Not all courses are offered each semester and enrollment may be limited. Flexibility and advanced planning are key factors in successful completion of the LEBUS minor. Exceptions will not be made.
    1. B LAW 424 (3) (R EST) Real Estate Law
    2. B LAW 425 (3) (R EST) Environmental Law, Property, and Commerce (not currently offered)
    3. B LAW 444 (3) Advanced UCC and Commercial Transactions
    4. * B LAW 445 (3) Intellectual Property and Competition Law
    5. * IST 432 (3) Legal and Regulatory Environment of Information Science and Technology
    6. COMM 403 (3) Law of Mass Communication
    7. LER 401 (3) The Law of Labor-Management Relations

    * NOTE: A student may not count both B LAW 445 and IST 432 towards the LEBUS minor.
