Study Abroad 101
On the first Wednesday of every month, the Education Abroad
office holds a session titled “Study Abroad 101” in 410 Bouke from
4:30-5:15 PM.
This session is hosted by two students who have previously studied abroad that
share their experiences and provide useful information about the study abroad
process. Based on the session on November 7, it seemed that “Study Abroad
101”
is aimed toward students who are unsure about whether or not they want to study
abroad, rather than students who want to learn about the process. A Penn State
“Guide
to Education Abroad Programs” pamphlet was made available to attendees that
lists all of the programs available along with a few quick facts here and
there. The presentation described things like reasons to study abroad, different
costs associated with studying abroad, and financial aid and scholarship
options. It also explained options to help students choose a program that fits
individual needs. The program ended with a question-and-answer session. Advice
to students that plan on attending this program is definitely to come early; it
becomes very crowded and may be hard to hear and see the presentation from the
back!
